There are things in Waves Gold that may make it worth it to you. We simply don't live in the old days of limited CPU power where we need to choose a minimum number of delay taps, and Reaper automatically handles mono/stereo plugins. You don't need the C comps, C gates, SuperTap, or Q EQs when you have ReaComp, ReaGate, ReaDelay, and ReaEQ. Waves Gold would give you a lot more plugins but many are long in the tooth and have been supplanted by better offerings. What you'd be missing in Waves you could pick up from a variety of other sources, but Soundtoys is very hard to replace. Soundtoys is useful for creative processing and Waves is generally for mixing. They are different styles of bundles though, as others have said. If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Soundtoys 5 any day over Waves Gold.

The most prized SoundToys plugins are Echoboy and Decapitator (I know multiple producers with 200k+ soundcloud followers who put Decapitator on just about every bus in their mixes), but PhaseMistress is the coolest phaser plugin I've ever used, Crystallizer is a delay plugin on crack, and FilterFreak is one of the most feature-packed filter plugins on the market.Īdditionally, every single plugin is loaded with presets that are organized by instrument (guitar, drums) or effect (spaces, sound design) and all of them are carefully designed to the point where they are all potentially useful.Įvery mix I do has SoundToys plastered all over it, and I make good mixes, so take it for what its worth.I use Reaper and I have both. I have no idea how you can turn your 4 Little plugins into the entire bundle for $255 (that sounds a tad ridiculous to me), but if you can actually do that then it's the best $255 you can spend on music production in general, imo.

That being said, the entire Soundtoys 5 bundle was just on sale for $300 on Black Friday ($260 from specific retail partners), so you missed your chance to get literally the best deal on it they've ever had (they almost always do a Black Friday sale, however). Their customer service is incredible, and most importantly, their plugins are amazing. SoundToys has some of the smartest and most creative people at their company who totally love what they do. One thing I do without fail on this Subreddit whenever I get the opportunity is praise SoundToys as much as possible.
